Malta Gaming Authority Sets Up One-Stop Shop for ESG Reporting in Online Gaming

The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) just launched a new environmental, social, and governance (ESG) hub on their website. This is aimed at providing some useful information on ESG reporting for licensees.

This new resource is basically a one-stop-shop for everything related to the Authority’s voluntary ESG Code of Good Practice. The goal here is to help online gaming companies align with best practices and meet stakeholder expectations when it comes to sustainability.

The ESG hub is meant to support companies in adopting sustainable practices. The ESG Code offers an industry-specific framework to enhance transparency, encourage ESG reporting, and allow benchmarking among companies. It tries to work with existing efforts in the industry and gives remote gaming firms a reference to regularly assess, report on, and improve their ESG practices.

Developed through research, stakeholder input, and all that jazz, the Code covers 19 ESG topics across environmental, social, and governance categories.

In essence, it provides a roadmap for online gaming companies to streamline their reporting efforts. The Code has two tiers of reporting — Tier 1 for basic ESG standards and Tier 2 for more advanced goals.

The aim is to make the Code accessible to a wide range of companies. Firms reporting under the Code will get the MGA’s ESG Code Approval Seal to showcase their efforts.

This launch follows some other regulatory actions taken by the MGA recently around licensing and authorisations. But for now, check out their new ESG hub for sustainable gaming practices.
